On Friday, January 24, 1986, two Sea of Galilee fishermen made a fascinating discovery. On March 15th, 2010, the story of the 2,000-year-old Jesus Boat—its discovery, excavation, and the many miracles surrounding the vessel—is available in a one-hour DVD entitled The Jesus Boat Revealed.
“It is our hope that people everywhere will come to revel in the wonder and relevance of the Jesus Boat,” says Alon Kossonogi, CEO of the Jesus Boat Museum. “We are proud to share our story with the world through exciting DVDs, books, film, television specials, and a traveling exhibit of this precious antiquity.”
With the release of The Jesus Boat Revealed DVD, available at www.jesusboatmuseum.com, www.amazon.com, and other selected providers—the Jesus Boat Museum staff and everyone involved in the boat’s discovery and excavation hope to inspire individuals around the world to embrace the wonder of the Jesus Boat experience.
“The Jesus Boat discovery is just like one of those stories from the Bible,” says Yuval Lufan, who discovered the vessel with his brother Moishale. “It seems unrealistic, yet it happened. Our discovery is one of those incredible Bible stories, only it happened here and now, in this day and age.”
The Jesus Boat Revealed chronicles the numerous stories surrounding the boat’s discovery and excavation through interviews with the people who were there. The movie illustrates how the vessel has become a physical touch-point to the life and ministry of Jesus Christ, relaying many of the exciting miracles experienced by the people involved.
“It’s more than just a boat,” says Dr. Kurt Raveh, the marine archeologist who organized the excavation of the Jesus Boat. “It’s really a story of God’s promises … a boat that wouldn’t stay buried in a nation that wouldn’t stay buried.”
There are also many appearances in the movie by noteworthy individuals, such as Ehud Barak, Israel’s defense minister and former prime minister of Israel; Skip Heitzig, documentary host and founder and senior pastor of Calvary of Albuquerque; Pat Robertson, founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network; Jay Seklow, radio talk show host and president of the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ); Franklin Graham, Christian evangelist and son of Dr. Billy Graham; Tim LaHaye, co-author of the phenomenally popular Left Behind novel series; and Joel Rosenberg, an expert on Israeli politics and history, as well as the author of The Last Jihad novel series.
While there is plenty of fascinating science surrounding the Jesus Boat’s excavation, preservation, and authentication to the precise time that Christ was living in the Galilee, Kossonogi says these details are only a small part of what people want to know about. “People always ask me why there’s so must focus on the scientific part of this story,” says Kossonogi. “Here is something real, they say, so why focus on the science? Most people care more about the people side of this story, so we’ve tried to include as much of the human element as possible in the DVD.”
